Tuesdays with Dorie Finishes Book - Thank you Dorie & TWD

Tuesdays with Dorie Collage
Just some of the delicious recipes made during Tuesdays with Dorie...

This past week, the baking group Tuesdays with Dorie completed making all the recipes in Dorie Greenspan's wonderful book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

I wasn't able to participate each week, but I have made a majority of the recipes in the book. Aside from the butter, flour and chocolate, the Tuesdays with Dorie group changed my life in so many positive ways. I've made new friends and felt such a sense of community and friendship in this vast online world. TWD has helped me discover blogs and inspired me to bake each week! I learned new skills and gained confidence in my baking. Thank you Dorie Greenspan for being supportive of our group (getting a comment from The Dorie Greenspan on your post is such a thrill) and answering our questions. Dorie would give us hints and explanations...she's awesome! Thank you Laurie (who started the group) and Jules (who helped with  coordination) for keeping us organized and on track!

My new year's resolutions is to join the group going through Dorie's classic, Baking with Julia!

I'm sad this round of Tuesdays with Dorie has ended...but I know I have a book full of great recipes and notes, friendships and inspiration to carry me for many years to come.

Please read this Washington Post article about the group!

Basic Biscuits - Tuesdays with Dorie

Basic Biscuits - Tuesdays wit Dorie
Basic Biscuits

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Jennifer of Cooking for Comfort chose Basic Biscuits on page 21 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

Basic Biscuits - Tuesdays wit Dorie
I made 1/4 of the recipe and pulled out two biscuits...that I ate piping hot from the oven with some blueberry jam. The look is "rustic" (read: I didn't roll them out and cut them into cute circles...just sorta balled them up and threw them into the oven!)

These would be great with a big bowl of soup or just more butter and jam. Try them soon!

Apple Nut Muffin Cake - Tuesdays with Dorie

Apple Nut Muffin Cake

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Katrina of Baking and Boys chose Apple Nut Muffin Cake on page 37 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

Katrina, who shares a birthday with the awesome National Bundt Day, selected a winner. Dorie writes that she planned on making muffins, but threw it all into a square pan. I just love Dorie and can see this happening to many people.

I used one medium Granny Smith apple, walnuts and regular raisins. Next time, because I'm such a gingerific person, I might throw in a handful of crystallized ginger to "fall" it up. This is super easy to make and perfect for breakfast. And let's not forget the antioxidants... fruit and nuts are healthy, people! ;)

I came home from a fantastic trip to New England (more on that later), woke up and made this. I took photos with my new Samsung Charge phone before the sun came up.

Classic Brownies - Tuesdays with Dorie
Classic Brownies

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Anne of Anne Strawberry chose Classic Brownies on page 88 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

Hope you are all doing well! I've been pretty busy lately and am trying to get back on the baking bandwagon! Today, it's one of Dorie Greenspan's brownie recipes! If you don't have Dorie's book yet, you really need to...she has a whole section on brownies!

Classic Brownies - Tuesdays with Dorie
Chocolate, a little flour and California walnuts.
Yum!
These brownies are moist and rich. I'm more of a cakey brownie person, but these were good with the walnuts.

Tropical Un-Crumble - Tuesdays with Dorie

Tropical Crumble - Tuesdays with Dorie
Tropical Crumble

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Gaye of Laws of the Kitchen chose Tropical Crumble on pages 418-419 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

This should have been a full size dessert with a baked crumble on top... but I was making this for one and I just came back from a pilates class. I just started taking pilates and find it interesting...I'm finding muscles that I didn't know I had. :) Anyway, I'm enjoying the class and decided to make a quick and lighter version of Dorie's Tropical Crumble.

Tropical Crumble collage
For my one person serving inspired by Dorie's recipe, I cut one medium banana and half a mango. Some butter and brown sugar are heated and the fruit is gently browned. At the end, I tossed in some chopped pecans.

This was a perfect little dessert for watching The Closer and resting some sore muscles! :)

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Nancy of The Dogs Eat the Crumbs chose Carrot Spice Muffins on page 14 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

I skipped the coconut, raisins and nuts. I know, that's a lot of omissions, but I added a little more carrots and it was all yum.

Chocolate Chip Cream Scones - Tuesdays with Dorie

Chocolate Chip Cream Scones - Tuesdays with Dorie
Chocolate Chip Cream Scones

This was supposed to be ice cream. And it's not.
I'm a wee bit behind with my Tuesdays with Dorie postings. Seems that Tuesdays just comes too quickly. I missed these scones from a couple weeks ago...and I didn't freeze my ice cream maker in time for the sorbet. Yes, sometimes baking needs a bit more planning than I can do in the summer. :)

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Lynne of Cafe LynnyLu chose Cream scones on page 27 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

Chocolate Chip Cream Scones collage 1
Scones are super easy and take just a few minutes to make. Mix together with your hands and a spatula, form into rounds and cut. I love my bench scraper for making scones...it can cut the scones and scrape up any crumbs for easy cleaning. I made Dorie's cream scones recipe and subbed the currants with mini chocolate chips.

Date-Nut Loaf - Tuesdays with Dorie

Date-Nut Loaf - Tuesdays with Dorie
Date-Nut Loaf

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Mary of Popsicles and Sandy Feet picked Date-Nut Loaf of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

My buddy Mary got to pick another Tuesdays with Dorie treat. (We made our way through all the bakers and some lucky bakers won a random drawing to pick again!)

Date-Nut Loaf - Tuesdays with Dorie
I made 1/4 the recipe and got three mini loaves. Aren't these cute?

Date-Nut Loaf - Tuesdays with Dorie
One of the perks of making 1/4th of the recipe? That you have a leftover bag of dates to snack on! Have you had a date shake? Deliciousness.

Check out the other Tuesdays with Dorie bakers and see their creations!

My loaves were filled with dates and walnuts...but you can use any dried fruits and nuts.

Chocolate Biscotti - Tuesdays with Dorie

Chocolate Biscotti - Tuesdays with Dorie
Chocolate Biscotti
For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Jacque of Daisy Lane Cakes picked Chocolate Biscotti from Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.
Chocolate Biscotti - Tuesdays with Dorie
I used raw almonds (chopped a bit) and mini chocolate chips. Next time, I'm going to add dried cherries...that would be awesomeness.

Chocolate Biscotti collage
Biscotti are twice baked cookies. Bake off a log, let cool for a bit and then cut and bake on its side. This finishes the baking and dries them out...making them crunchy. I like to leave a bit of "soft" in the center.

Chocolate Biscotti - Tuesdays with Dorie
Grab a couple biscotti and a cup of coffee or tea. Nothing better.

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Cindy of Everyday Insanity chose Blueberry-Brown Sugar Plain Cake on page 36 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

Blueberry-Brown Sugar Plain Cake collage 2
This is another great Dorie recipe. Easy to make. Delicious and, my favorite part, no frosting. Sign me up!

I made this early this morning and dropped it off at my folk's house. My mom works at an elementary school so she brought it to the teacher's lounge.

Blueberry-Brown Sugar Plain Cake collage 1
I didn't have the 2 cups of blueberries...because I ate some of them! :) But I think my cup and a scattering were plenty of blueberries. I threw some blueberries on top to make sure they all didn't sink to the bottom.

Oatmeal Maple Scones Collage 1
Hot damn. These scones are good. They're not your Starbucks super-sweet scones. They are nice, slightly sweet and have a great texture with oats and dried fruit.

Oatmeal Nutmeg Scones - Tuesdays with Dorie
Don't you just want some of these?! They come together in a jiffy. I make my scones by hand and I added currants to the scones.

Maple Cornmeal Biscuits

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, May 17, 2011 – Lindsay from A Little Something… Sweet chose Maple Cornmeal Biscuits on page 24. of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

These are sooooo good! I could eat a hundred of these light, slightly sweet biscuits. The maple syrup flavor is subtle yet delicious!
Maple Cornmeal Biscuits - Tuesdays with Dorie
I made half the recipe and used a cookie scoop to dish out these drop biscuits. Yes, no rolling or forming...but scoop and bake. So easy! My scoop was small as I got 12 small biscuits (the full recipe yields 12 larger biscuits)

I hope you get a chance to make these soon. They are perfect with breakfast, lunch or dinner!

 Brown Sugar Bundt Cake

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Peggy from Pantry Revisited chose Brown Sugar Bundt Cake on page 179 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

Brown Sugar Bundt Cake - Tuesdays with Dorie
Dude, it's a Bundt. You know I'm there. I love all of Dorie's Bundt recipes...and this one is no exception. I brought this into the library while it was still warm...and everyone could smell the lovely brown sugar!

Brown Sugar Bundt Cake - Tuesdays with Dorie
Instead of using pears, I used granny smith apples. I also skipped all the nuts and the raisins to make it co-worker friendly. Super easy to make and no frosting. Ah, this is why the Bundt is the greatest baked good on the planet! Darn, I Like Big Bundts. :)

Cornmeal Shortbread Cookies - Tuesdays with Dorie
This is an egg-less shortbread cookie with a bit of cornmeal. Super easy to throw together, roll out and let chill overnight. Cut into squares, prick twice with a fork and 25 minutes later...cookies!

A Tourtely Apple Tart - Tuesdays with Dorie

A Tourtely Apple Tart - Tuesdays with Dorie
A Tourtely Apple Tart

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Jeanette of The Whimsical Cupcake chose A Tourtely Apple Tart on pages 306 and 307 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

A Tourtely Apple Tart - Tuesdays with Dorie
For a bunch of crazy reasons, I didn't have access to my mini tart pans so I did these free form hand pie thingies. With a knife, I cut two steam holes in the center...but when they came out of the oven, they look like a little heart. Ahhh...tart/pie love.

Apple - collage 1
An apple, raisin, nut and spice applesauce is cooked on the stove and cooled. I skipped the nuts in the filling and tart dough, but didn't miss it. I could eat this applesauce all day long. I made the crust dough by hand...yes, those white pieces are butter. I made 1/2 the tart dough so that made two little tarty pies.

A Tourtely Apple Tart - Tuesdays with Dorie
This is like a grown up and much more delicious version of a McDonald's apple pie! :)
